The Lord Jesus Christ 2

The phrase Lord Jesus Christ appears 83 times in the New Testament. And “the” appears 26 times in front of His three most important names. Many times those words appear in a different order. The prefix is very important. THE Lord Jesus Christ. He is THE ONLY LORD JESUS. The name Lord means supreme in authority, controller; by implication, Master, God, Lord, Sir. The name Jesus means Saviour. Christ means the Jewish Messiah, whose coming and vicarious suffering and death for sin was promised. Notice how often the word Lord appears before the word Jesus. It was necessary that He was the Lord before He could be the Saviour. Now that He is Saviour, He is still the Lord. There are many in our world that would tolerate Jesus as Saviour but they do not want Him as Lord.

Matthew 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

Luke 19:14 But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.

The man in the passage whose reign they rejected is a type of Christ. It is obvious that Christ is not reigning in the lives of public sinners in our time. But there are many sitting in churches for an hour a week who believe they are Christians, but they do not permit Him to reign in their lives. He is not a part-time Saviour or a part-time Lord. He is always the Son of God, He is always God the Son and He is always God. Men who have not humbled themselves under God have not truly received the LORD JESUS CHRIST.

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

Romans 5:17: For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

None of us can reign in life until we are on the side of God benefiting from His power. And He will not apply His power to us and our lives until we are in the proper place in the chain of command, which is under Him.

1 Peter 5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
